Infected Branchial Cleft Cyst Due to Neisseria Meningitidis: An Unusual Presentation in a Pediatric Case

Meningococcal disease, which is caused by Neisseria meningitidis (N. meningitidis), may present clinically as meningococcemia, meningitis, or with a mixed picture. A 3-year-old girl was admitted to our hospital tender, immobile, hard, hot and erythematous mass measuring 3x4 cm on the left anterior part of neck. The patient diagnosed branchial cleft cyst in side neck regularly followed an otolaryngologist since 6-month-old. abscess culture grew N. meningitidis. Serogroup determination identified nongroupable Infected associated has rarely been reported, knowledge, this second case literature. This demonstrates importance microbiologic identification, plays major role management patient. It should be noted that N.meningitidis can unusual clinical manifestations affecting all systems body; indicates vaccination vaccine-preventable diseases.
